Lyrics

I am a man from the heartland
midwestern Illinois
I know its not known for the mountains
but i am a mountain man for sure
well i just got back from Indiana
and i stayed at Bill Monroe's campground
and all that waiting wondering wishing playing and listening
you can sure bet ive been found

and i can still hear those rollin banjos
and Mike Comptons mandolin
and i cant stop thinking about
how im going to get back home to
Indiana again

It was John Heartford's Memorial Festival
he was a steamboat captain in my home town
he would get that steamboat a floating
and you could hear that Juila Belle Song
with the soft spoken voice of the captain
toe tappin and the wheel clappin time
he would tell stories of the Illinois Heartland
with a banjo and of fiddle in his hand

and i can remember when i was a young lad
i rode on that Julia Belle Swain
up and down that Illinois river
my oh my where oh where
has that time gone

well i made that trek
with the Creek Road Ramblers
we picked a set on that Boogie Stage
and i had the pleasure of sitting in
with the Worley Boys
and met a bunch of fine folk
with happy on there face

and now im back in the Heartland
thinking about a simpler time
and i reflect back on Bill Monroe's Campground
and i can ear that lonesome fiddle sound

And i can still hear those rollin banjos
and Mike Compton's mandolin
and i cant stop thinking about how
im going to get back home to
Indiana again

and i cant stop thinking about
how im going to get back
home
to Indiana again!
